  • Overview

    Responsible for engineering system infrastructure solutions to meet Tech Data's business requirements. Makes decisions that are critical in the areas of capacity planning, problem resolution, and infrastructure design, with the potential to affect the successful execution of business transactions. Responsible for managing the planning, coordination, configuration, installation, and management of Windows based systems and related client services. Leads or serves as a technical resource in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the system infrastructure and operating procedures. Keeps abreast of the latest hardware/software technologies and identifies opportunities to leverage them to improve Tech Data's competitive edge.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities Required

    • Interfaces with appropriate management levels, clients, departments, and vendor organizations to ensure delivery of technically sound and cost effective solution to meet the functional requirement of our business.
    • Designs infrastructure solutions to meet all system availability and performance requirements.
    • Conducts regular monitoring and tuning activities to insure that established SLAs are met.
    • Assists in strategic planning of infrastructure environments in support of internal customers, including discovery and documentation of user requirements before design, development, and implementation.
    • Participates in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the system infrastructure and operating environment.
    • Works closely with all system support groups to solve complex problems aimed at delivering consistent quality service to our clients.
    • Analyzes trends and develops a long-range plan designed to resolve problems and prevent them from reoccurring.
    • Identifies opportunities and recommends solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness; participates in IT initiatives to address service issues.
    • Keeps abreast of technical aspects of the systems hardware and operating systems; has a working knowledge of department-specific applications; attends seminars and takes advantage of other educational opportunities; seeks out insight and on-the-job training from peers and other internal and external resources.
    • Develops and follows procedures for systems administration (e.g., security, reliability) and change management.
    • Establishes system standards and guidelines.*Performs additional duties as assigned *Meets attendance and punctuality standards

    Qualifications, Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities and Working Conditions

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
    • 6-8 years of related experience in infrastructure/and enterprise server environments.
    • 6+ years of experience installing and maintaining Windows based servers.
    • Proven experience managing medium to large projects.
    • Extensive experience evaluating and implementing various software tools and applications.
    • Previous experience recommending strategic infrastructure solutions for medium to large corporations.
    • Possesses strong leadership skills with a willingness to lead, create new ideas, and be assertive.
    • Possesses strong organizational and time management skills, driving tasks to completion.
    • Able to analyze and resolve complex issues and problems in a sound and timely fashion.
    • Able to assimilate research data from a variety of sources, analyze, and recommend appropriate courses of action to take.
    • Able to constructively work under stress and pressure when faced with high workloads and deadlines.
    • Able to design applications using new or existing methodologies.
